In 2009 our family took a mandatory pay cut which was a lot better than losing the job altogether.

Needing to figure out how to manage a household with two small children on significantly less money sent me into a tailspin. I was looking for guidance but found little. How much of our income should I be spending on housing, food and debt reduction? Everything I found was a budget, and it didn't fit what I was needing to calm my mind.

Obviously, cuts were needed but how was I going to go about that?

Ultimately, I opened a few extra bank accounts. Each payday I transferred a portion of the monthly bills into one account, a portion of the mortgage payment into another, a small percentage into a third account for non-regular expenses (think birthday presents, oil changes, hair cuts, etc) and we got to live on the rest.

There was no question that the bills and mortgage would be paid and that helped me sleep at night. After years of living this way I came across the Profit First method.

I knew immediately that implementing these strategies would be life changing for business owners and too many didn't know about the power of small plates.
